News

October 16, 2009 - The band will be appearing on a forthcoming compilation disc being produced by Chicago's Mile Long Records.  We provided a new tune, "Mississippi Lights", for the record, which is tentatively titled "Analog Highway".  The album features a ton of terrific Chicago talent from gritty bands including Scattergun, The Nashville Wreckers, Twilight Revival, us (of course), and many others.  Most of the acts, like Medicine Hat, are rootsy-rockers exhibiting varying degrees of country, Americana, or just plain old bar-room rock 'n' roll.

The record release party is scheduled for Saturday, December 5th at Martyr's in Chicago.  Please come out and support us, as well as the other great bands that have helped put together what promises to be a fantastic listen.

September 28, 2008 - Medicine Hat is happy to welcome in accomplished fiddle/violin player Cathie Van Wert.  Cathie appears on the band's most recent record, Blood and Bone, and we loved her playing so much that we've invited her to become a member of the outfit.  She adds a sometimes subtle, always beautiful sound to the band's repertoire, and truly makes the band's live line-up a top-notch entity.  Come out and catch the 'new' Medicine Hat as soon as possible...

July 30, 2008 - The band is very pleased to announce the official world-wide release of our new album,
Blood and Bone.  Visit www.cdbaby.com/cd/medicineh4 to purchase a copy of what we feel is our finest collection of music to date.  Many thanks are due: to Al Purvey, our long-time producer/engineer; to Brian Walsh, our graphic artist; and to the guest musicians who took part in the recording of this album--Kurt Anderson and Mitch Goldman (horns), Cathie Van Wert (fiddle), and Tim Barrett (backing vocals).  And, of course, thanks to all of you who continue to support "The Hat".

February 25, 2008 - Studio sessions continued over the weekend for our new album, Blood and Bone.  The band would like to thank guest musicians Tim Barrett (lead singer of Pocket Aces), as well as professional horn players Mitch Goldman and Kurt Anderson, who all lent their talents to our most recent recording session.  In addition, new guitarist Todd Hackl came in and laid down some of the finest guitar work to appear on a "Hat" album to date.  We're getting closer to completing the new album, and hope to have it wrapped up this spring.  As usual, we'll keep you posted.

February 11, 2008 - Medicine Hat would like to welcome in our newest member, lead guitarist Todd Hackl.  Todd was most recently a member of Chicago’s Lost Ghost Lounge, and brings a wealth of band, live, and studio experience to the mix.  He’s a fantastic player, and his style fits the band like a glove.  Todd's first appearance with the band will be March 15th at Penny Road.

January 20, 2008 - The band entered Curved Air Studios and completed our first recording session for the new album, which now has the working title Blood and Bone.  We put down basic tracks for nine new songs in what turned out to be the most productive studio date in "Hat" history.  Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to releasing what will be Medicine Hat's finest record yet...

December 15 , 2007 - We've re-vamped the website!  Big thanks to the band's official graphic artist, Brian Walsh.  If you're in the market for wed design, visit his page at www.windycitywebdesign.comHe's a top-notch designer.

November 13, 2007 - The band will be taking a short break from live performances over the coming winter as we'll be back in Curved Air Studios recording our fourth album, Blood and Bone.  Songs targeted for the new album include: "Emmett Till", "Mudhen", "Take the Bait", "El Dorado Suite", and "Old Country Home", amongst others.  We're shooting for a Spring, 2008 release.

Also, the website will be getting a major make-over before Christmas--we'll keep you posted.

November 7, 2006 - Muchos gracias to WXRT (93.1 FM in Chicago) host Richard Milne for spinning new music from State Of The Union all this weekRichard has been granted official "hathead" status as a result of his attention!

October 21, 2006 - After over a year of writing and seven months in the studio, Medicine Hat is most pleased to
announce the official release of our third album, State Of The Union, through our brand-new privately
 owned indie label, DFC Records
(www.myspace.com/dfcrecords).  As we've pointed out a number of times,
the record is a loose concept album revolving around aspects of America in the 21st century.  Religion,
politics, the government's underhanded behavior, and narrow-minded American jingoism all come under fire
on the album.  If you've never given Medicine Hat a chance, this is a great time to start...

As usual, we owe a debt of thanks to some people for helping make this record happen.  First and foremost,
Alan Purvey, engineer of Curved Air Studios
(www.curvedairstudio.com), deserves our sincere gratitude.  Al has
shown continued patience with the band's anal-retentive leanings in the studio, and, with each record, becomes
more involved in maximizing the sonic characteristics of our recorded material.  We consider him an honorary
member of Medicine Hat.  We'd also like to thank our official graphic artist, Brian Walsh, who once again rose to
the occasion in helping design an eye-catching art package.  Finally, thanks to the rest of you for your continued
support for a band that strongly believes in doing things our own way and will not pander or compromise to join
the mainstream.  Visit our "SOUNDS" page to pick a copy of the record today!

May 17, 2005 - Our radio spot for Listener Station (www.listenerstation.com) is now being broadcast on radio waves across the country.  Unfortunately, Listener Station doesn't currently advertise on any Chicago stations, so you won't hear it on the radio in our fair city.  But, being the generous souls that we are, we're giving you a chance to listen to it right here!  Just click this link...
